Scratch Map

Hello, travelers. This is Kumi. Usually, I write about some information on Japan, but as the visitors to this page must be interested in traveling in general, let me talk about the map I bought recently.

I've seen the ad (probably) on Instagram and talked about this with my friends and I happened to see the real one at Sydney Airport. So I grabbed one before going home.

Ta-da! The map was wrapped with a thin white sheet and rolled in the box.

I'm going to use this letter opener to scratch it.

Oh, if you live with cats, please be careful. They might scratch the places you haven't been to. LOL

I started with my very first abroad, which is England. Hmm... that was in 1988.

Then I had a chance to visit France and Italy in 1994.

Scratching, scratching...

Looking back on the 35-day journey around Europe by train. That was in 2000. This was before I bought a digital camera.

Now the US. I need the state map for reference.

The very first US visit was to Los Angeles and Florida. Disneyland? No, Kennedy Space Center and Key West. LOL

In 2007, drove from Chicago to Los Angeles on Route 66.

Hmm... It's funny that the US should be scratched by states. It seems I still have a lot of places to visit.

Then, Canada. I just visited Montreal in 2011 and Toronto in 2015, but I got to scratch quite a large area. :)

At first, I was trying to scratch by the order of my visit, but at some points, I forgot about it.

Hmm... I didn't have many chances to visit Asian countries. Thailand, Hong Kong, Korea, and... Wow! Is that all!?

It was a bit difficult to find which one is Guam and which is Saipan. Both are popular beach resort destinations from Japan. Probably these.

Places like Guam, Saipan, and New Caledonia may be controversial when you count the numbers of the countries you visited. Somehow, I really wish to count New Caledonia because it's very far from France. :P

Australia is also divided by the states. I hope to visit the mid and west parts someday.

Oh, I forgot about Mexico. Though I just went to Cancun for Scuba diving.

I shouldn't forget about Turkey where I saw a lot of cute cats.

Oh, and Morocco. Visited there from Southern Spain for a day trip.

Now, the tough one. Russia!

It's just so huge!!

Using the side of the letter opener made it easier to scratch.

Turned around the map to do more...

Just learned it's okay to scratch the whole gold part along the coastlines.

Okay. Done!

I forgot about the Sakhalin area at this point. Anyway, I could scratch all together with Japan so that to avoid controversy. :P

Done!

I found the detailed map of Europe on the bottom left, but I'll do it some other time.

The shocking thing is... it's cheaper on Amazon than the one at the airport. LOL
