Canon Japan Tour (Day 10) Naoshima

Hello, travelers. This is Kumi. I guided Canon Australia's Japan tour for two weeks. Let me show you how we enjoyed the tour. This is about Day 10, the day we took a day trip to Naoshima Island.

We often start taking photos before breakfast.

Our hotel's breakfast room happens to be on the 25th floor with amazing views so...

We captured sunrise from here.

After breakfast, we checked out and headed for Hiroshima station. Wow! Hello Kitty train!?

That isn't our train. We took Nozomi Super Express 12 from Hiroshima to Okayama at 10:17. It was just 35 minutes' ride.

Once we arrived at Okayama station, we left our luggage at the hotel and then took trains to Uno Port.

At 12:15, we got on a ferry to the art island, Naoshima. Yay!!

What a lovely day!! Isn't this like we are enjoying a Greek island cruise? :P

As we are visiting the art island, I'm quite motivated to take artistic photos.

We arrived at Miyanoura Port in Naoshima at 12:35 and rented bikes.

Most of us rented motor-assisted bicycles.

Hmm... This is exciting!

Woo-hoo!!!

Oh, yeah!!!

This is our first stop, Chichu Art Museum.

We booked the tickets in advance.

Let's go in.

What a special atmosphere!!!

As we are not allowed to take photos in the museum, I wasn't sure if visiting Chichu Art Museum was a good choice for the photo tour, but the tour leader said this would surely inspire all of us. And it was SO true. We all got greatly inspired by this museum.

It was lovely to take photos of the pond after seeing Monet's artworks.

It looks like they are just having fun riding bikes, but this may be a new art form? :P

After the museum, we freely biked around the island.

Found it!!! This is the bus stop of Nekobus of "My Neighbor Totoro." It's a popular Japanese anime movie.

I found a tour member in the distance. This is a lady from the west part of Australia.

Somehow, I kept thinking about Shoji Ueda's artworks and tried creating a similar atmosphere even though I didn't see any of his works today.

By the way, there is an interesting story about this pumpkin.

This pumpkin had been washed away during typhoons a couple of times and fishermen saved it. So nowadays, the pumpkin is carried to a safer place when a big typhoon comes.

Here is a photo on twitter when people were carrying this pumpkin. It's very cute and heartwarming.

Our member's photo is also very cute.

Art is everywhere on this island. It's really fun to explore.

Oh, wow! Finally! I really wanted to see this giant trash can!!! Somehow, the guy next to it didn't move at all, so I captured him in the frame. After all, he is a good size reference.

It's such a beautiful island!

We gathered at the port around 4:30pm and returned the bikes.

Then enjoyed taking sunset photos.

This is the other pumpkin.

One of our members captured the sunset in a very unique way.

There is Sou Fujimoto's artwork, Naoshima Pavillion, near Miyanoura Port. Here is the story behind it. The video in the article is very impressive.

We got on the ferry around 5:30pm and came back to Uno Port.

Then took trains back to Okayama station.

Dinner tonight was very interesting. We learned a lot about ceramics and Japanese sake. Look at this ball-like stuff. It opens and...

Beautifully arranged food came out!!!

We enjoyed it very much!

After dinner, we went for a walk to capture Christmas lights along the canal.

I may have inspired by Naoshima's art, I played with my camera and tried to be creative. :)
