Cherry blossoms at Ueno Park
Hello, travelers. This is Kumi. Picturesque Japan Blog welcomes you to Ueno Park.
Many of you probably know that Japanese people really appreciate cherry blossoms. We enjoy picnicking under cherry trees. Every year, a lot of maps are issued to let people know where we can see the flowers.
Here is the one for Ueno Park. Even though the map is in Japanese, you can tell where about if you use Google Maps together.

Today, I came to Ueno by Ginza line.

To go to Ueno Park, the exit 7 is convenient.
Then, head for this building.
Yes. This one. It says "Sakura Terrace" in Japanese (FYI: Sakura means cherry blossoms).
Let's go up to the top level.
You'll come to this area.
You can visit the temple called Kiyomizu Kannondo.

It was just before the closing time. I barely greeted the Goddess of Mercy. :)
People were enjoying the view.
A lot of tiny bonsai trees were sold just outside the temple.
SO cute!!!
You could see Tokyo Sky Tree from here.
You could meet this popular guy called Takamori Saigo.

He's been popular again these days because a TV drama featuring him started in January.
Anyway, let's go back to cherry trees. The street was full of people even though it was still 5pm on Friday evening.
If you go back to the temple area, you can find the stairs to go down.
Food stands attract people.
Very attractive!
This is an incense burner. People believe that the smoke has healing power. If you have a headache, for example, you can fan the smoke to your head.
You'll find the hexagonal tower called Bentendo. Benten (Benzaiten) is the Goddess who can give you good luck in academic studies, arts, property, and relationships.
Anyway, people are enjoying food and drinks here. To your surprise, we can drink outside in Japan. Yes, I mean alcohol!!
To my surprise, cherry blossoms here are not as open as the ones around the temple up there. It seems colder around the pond.
It's lovely to walk around the pond.
Swan boats are very popular here.
The hexagonal tower from the distance.
They are real birds, not boats.
A pigeon was pecking the cherry blossoms and seemed disappointed...
Spiraea thunbergii (the small white flowers) were very pretty.
Some people in suits were picnicking under the tree. They seem co-workers. In Japan, a lot of people have this kind of events with co-workers. This is usually a season for people to start working or retiring, so they hold events also as a welcome/farewell party.
Getting dark...
It was such a lovely evening. I shouldn't have walked alone. LOL
I'll be going on a photo shooting tours with my clients tomorrow and the day after tomorrow. Please look forward to the update.
