Kamakura

Hello, travelers. This is KumiPicturesque Japan Blog welcomes you to Kamakura.

If you go to Kamakura from Shinjuku, you can take the JR Shonan-shinjuku line to Kamakura. From Tokyo station, you can take the JR Yokosuka line to Kamakura. From other areas, please ask Google. :)

Once you arrive at Kamakura station, go to the East exit and visit the Tourist Information center to get 頼朝きっぷA for 570 yen. This makes your tour easier.

From Kamakura station, we took a bus from the bus stop #5 (*the bus number 鎌23, 鎌24 or 鎌36), got off at "Jomyoji" stop.

We visited Hokokuji Temple. (admission 200 yen + green tea 500 yen)

Their bamboo forest is very popular.

We enjoyed matcha, powdered green tea.

A lovely couple at the lovely garden.

What a peaceful atmosphere!

Now, let's take a bus back to Hachimangu area (nearer to the station). There are a lot of restaurants around here. We enjoyed Japanese soba (buckwheat noodles).

After lunch, we visited Tsurugaoka Hachimangu.

We walked through Komari Dori (street) and took this photo at 二ノ鳥居(Ni-no-torii).

Then we went to the other side of the station and got on Enoden (train).

The view is amazing!!!

We went all the way to Enoshima station to appreciate the view from Enoden, then we took the other train back to Hase station to visit Kotokuin Temple.

This is a purification fountain. First, scoop some water with a ladle in your right hand and clean your left hand. Next, hold the ladle with your left hand and clean your right hand. Then again hold the ladle with your right hand, pour some water on your left hand and rinse your mouth. Then clean you left hand, and finally, clean the ladle with the remaining water.

Okay. Now they are ready to touch the Great Buddha! :)

Actually, the Buddha here is so huge. Do you see the couple in the photo below?

After the temple, we walked to Hase station and got some beer! Yay! In Japan, we are allowed to drink outside, even on streets. This may be really surprising for Americans.

We walked to the beach and enjoyed this sunset view.

Then we took Enoden back to Kamakura station. This was on October 12, but it was a very hot day like summer.
