Hello, travelers. This is Kumi. Picturesque Japan Blog welcomes you to Tokyo's island called "Izu Oshima."

This was a family trip with my mom and dad. We started our journey from Takeshiba Port, Tokyo. Here is the information about the ferry transportation.

We departed Tokyo at 10pm. The night views of Tokyo and Yokohama were beautiful!
Here is a lower deck where people can lie down and sleep.
Arriving in Oshima at 6:00 in the morning.
You see? It's still very dark.
We had some rest at a restaurant, rented a car, and started driving around the island. We decided to try making potteries.
The lady taught us how to make shapes.
Yup. We were very serious. Mom took our photo. Thx, mom. :)
I made this plate and my dad made the cup. At that moment, we didn't know how much it would shrink. LOL
The next place we visited was a camellia oil factory.
Then we explored more around the island. At some places, we can see the layers of volcanic sediment.
Now, this is Habu Port. My parents said there is a very popular song featuring this port.

Then we drove to the other shore with this little island called "Fude-shima." Fude means a brush pen. Hmm... okay. It looks a bit like a pen.
At night, we enjoyed Camellia Oil Tempura. It was very nice.
Fresh fish, of course!!
Then we visited the town center by bus offered by our hotel.
They had Camellia Festival. The dancers' fashion is very famous.
Next morning, we drove closer to Mt. Mihara.
Can you see the black lines? That's lava.
We could see Japan's mainland very far.
Okay, let's go down.
We visited the Camellia Garden.
Mom and I tried the famous costumes.
Dad is having fun with the Japanese traditional drum.
Then we visited Squirrel Village.
There were rabbits, too.
For lunch, we again enjoyed some fresh seafood.
After lunch, dad tried fishing but didn't catch any. :P
Okay. Let's go home with the ferry.
Goodbye, Oshima island!! We'll be back!!
Nowadays, a lot of people choose a high-speed jet ferry (1h45m), but we chose this slow one (5hrs) to enjoy cruising.
I'm sure it was a great fun for my dad.
The ferry stopped at Yokohama before heading for Tokyo.
The night view of Yokohama was pretty.

You can do this trip leaving Tokyo on Friday night and coming back to Tokyo on Sunday night. Isn't this a great idea for a weekend trip? :)
